Pouring Activity-Dry *Before beginning this activity, you will want to prepare your pitchers. You will need to use a permanent marker or tape to indicate the fill line. A dot will be marked on the bottom of the pitchers which will indicate the middle of the pitcher. Invite the child to do the exercise. Carry containers of dried beans or rice to the work area along with pitchers for pouring. Pour the beans or rice into the first pitcher indicating to the child the pour spout. Point out the spot on the bottom of a second pitcher and describe the steps to pouring. Pick up the pitcher full of rice or beans and begin pouring by aiming the pour spout at the dot in the second pitcher. Support the pitcher with your hand as you pour and describe the fill line to the child. When the first pitcher is empty, replace it quietly on the tray. Pick up any grains that have spilled. Indicate the dot on the first pitcher and repeat steps. Place rice or beans back into their containers and place both pitchers and container back on the shelf. The goal of this activity is to aid the child in developing coordination, learning independence, learning to pour, preparing to pour liquids, and preparing to write.
