Supplies: Board Game such as a Candyland board (or you can download the inchworm below). Measuring Tape or Ruler Board Game Cards (download file available in color or black and white below) or objects of different lengths. 3-4 tokens (pennies or pieces from another game will work)
Directions: Determine who will go first. First person draws from the card pile (or pile of objects). Player must measure the shape or object they picked. The length of the shape or object will be the number of places the player can move on the board. 1 inch=1 move. The next player will continue in a similar fashion. Players will continue around the board to the finish line. The first player to reach the finish line wins!
You may increase the difficulty of the game by including addition problems (pick two cards and add the length of each item together) or subtraction problems.
Goals: To help the child learn linear measurements, to learn the spacial relationship of objects, to develop a sense of differences in lengths, and to practice using a ruler.
