Take tray from the shelf and bring to the work area. Invite the child to participate in the activity as you spread the colored pieces randomly on the work area. Identify the colors of each piece and demonstrate how to place each piece in their corresponding section. The pie game displayed would be an excellent alternative to the toothpicks recommended in Grandma's activity. Older children may use toothpicks with supervision, but they are a choking hazard for little ones.
The purpose of this activity is to help develop hand-eye coordination, to develop concentration skills, and to prepare for handwriting.
