Button Activity *This activity originally uses the button frame which you can purchase online. Present the button tree to the child indicating the buttons. Demonstrate how to button and unbutton the apples on the tree. Allow the child to explore and play with the tree. As you demonstrate the skill, you should verbally describe how to button. You begin by laying an apple over the button. Lift the buttonhole flap with the left hand (this is reversed for southpaws) so that the button can be seen. Grasp the button with the right hand, placing the thumb on top. Tilt the button and slide it in part way into the buttonhole. Release the flap and draw the button the rest of the way through. Continue until all apples are on the apple tree. The goal of this activity is to develop coordination, concentration, and independence. It also facilitates in learning to dress and undress.
