Supplies:
2 buckets (small enough for a child to carry yet big enough to hold all of the bean bags) 10 bean bags (I suggest getting one of the sets on the left because they serve a dual purpose for learning shapes, numbers, or letters) Activities: Contrast- Place 9 bean bags in one bucket and 1 bean bag in another. Describe light and heavy. Invite the child to compare and describe. Matching- Place 1-5 bean bags in one bucket. Ask the child to fill the second bucket until it is as heavy as the first. Grading- Give the child a bucket with one bean bag. Ask them to carry it around the room. Continue adding bean bags one at a time until they are carrying all ten. Goals: To begin the concept of measurement, to learn the concepts of light and heavy, to develop the skill of comparison, and to develop a sense of inquiry. |
